Who it’s for: Elite players who desire tour-level control and feel in a compact, muscularback blade iron.
The Skinny: The Srixon Z-Forged II Irons were designed to provide elite golfers with consistent, powerful swings feel and control.
The Deep Dive: It is not about what designers add but what they leave out when designing irons for top players, including tour pros and college golfers. Golfers who can make consistent contact shot after shot, and want the ball to bend and curve at their will, don’t need the latest distance-enhancing technologies. They are looking for control, consistency, and a classic appearance in the address position.
Srixon has released the Z-Forged II Irons for golfers who want to update their muscleback blade.
The Z-Forged II irons are forged from one billet of 1020 steel for soft feel. They have a short blade length, thin topline, and almost no offset. The irons do have PureFrame, Srixon’s new shaping feature. This puts more mass behind the hitting area where good players make contact. For less accomplished players, perimeter weighting and a cavity back design can increase forgiveness. However, concentrating mass increases feel and sensations at impact.
The Z-Forged II irons feature a progressive groove design like the ZX-7 Mk II irons. The 3-iron through 7-iron have wider grooves that are better suited to full swing shots. For added control and spin, the 8-iron, 9-iron, and pitching wedge have narrower, deeper, and more tightly packed grooves.
Srixon also designed the Z-Forged II Irons, which were made with the company’s Tour V.T. The sole has a seam running from heel to toe through the club’s bottom. The sole’s front has more bounce to prevent the leading edge of the strike from digging into the turf. It is also easier to maintain club speed.
