Our forum members are discussing club options. WRXer ‘ernotte” is weighing himself using a “players mix or chunky utility steel” and kicks off this thread:
Gapping is a reason I am going to replace my hybrid (original Rogue) as well as my utility iron (410 cross-over) with one club. I don’t know if I want a players hybrid (thinking Apex pro) or a chunkier, more utility-oriented iron (thinking U505). Anyone have made a similar decision? It would be interesting to know your reasons for choosing one or the other.
The utility iron is my favorite, but I prefer the tee for all other situations. I am leaning towards the hybrid. I’m somewhere between a 1 to 4 handicap.

B.Easy says: “I made this decision and have kept both. Driving iron when there is no rough or for links. Hybrid when I play thick or long rough. Ping Crossover and PXG driving Iron further expose my hooing. PXG when I am playing in wind and need to use the tee less. When I need to hit soft and long par 3’s on a course. I enjoy playing a variety of tracks throughout the west each year, and these clubs allow me to play different course sets span>

chipa: “This topic is great. I’ve been trying to fill that 50+ yd. Gap between my 4i & 3w. I tried many hybrids but none of them were consistent. Based on many people’s advice, I finally got a 20 degree. 7 wood was good and I hit it as well most of the times, but due to the constant wind at my home course, it turned out to be only 4 irons into the wind. I’ve looked at a few bulky driving irons but I don’t like the idea of a blade at my address so I am not convinced I can hit them. Finally, I found an 18-degree. Players hybrid with an adjustable face that allows me to turn it open 1 degree. I will also use a steel shaft and hope to hit it consistently .” -
jholz: “One the hardest spots in the bag to fill in – to be certain. There are many options. Hybrids are my favorite. Players hybrids. They offer the greatest combination of versatility .”
