Jan Stephenson, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, has been diagnosed as having stage 3 breast cancer. Jan Stephenson Crossroads Foundation announced the news on Thursday. It noted that Jan Stephenson, a 71-year old woman with stage 3 breast cancer, will be starting chemotherapy and radiation therapy in the next two weeks.
Stephenson stated in the release that it meant so much to Stephenson for his friends and family to offer their support. Stephenson said, “I’ve had some difficult times in my career but managed to survive.” This is another difficult hole, ‘Uphill and Against The Wind.’
Stephenson was a winner of 16 LPGA championships, including three major championships. He is also a recipient of an Order of Australia Medal.
Michael Vandiver (Executive Vice President Jan Stephenson’s Crossroads Foundation), stated that “it’s impossible to overstate the impact Jan has had on golf not only in Australia but all around the globe with all the effort she put into developing young players through her charitable foundations.”
Stephenson is a professional winner with 41 wins around the world and continues to be active in senior circuit. Her foundation helps disabled military veterans as well as first responders.
