SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

Cindy Bodmer, of Southern Illinois, announced that she would retire after the 2023-24 season.

Bodmer is the women’s golf coach at SIU since September 2022. She is known in the local community for launching the women’s program at Rend Lake College, in 1999, and leading that program to 15 NJCAA National Championships.

Justin Fetcho, Director of Golf at SIU, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Coach Bodmer over the last two years.” She gave everything she had to the program and I cannot thank her enough for all her contributions, both on and off course. “We wish Cindy all the best for her retirement, and we know she will forever be a Saluki.”

Bodmer restructured Southern’s program after her first year, bringing six new freshmen in for the 2023-24 season.

Bodmer stated, “Leaving a program can be difficult but I am comforted by the fact that it will continue to thrive in good hands.” “Coach Fetcho has a winning record, and I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him for these past two years. Sarah Haas is my dedicated assistant and I want to thank her for her unwavering dedication to our student-athletes. “Teaming up with the SIU athletic staff and coaches was an incredible experience that I will never forget.”

Southern Illinois will be conducting a nationwide search for Bodmer’s successor this spring.
