JACKSON, Miss. Joel Dahmen used to dread Tuesdays before the Sanderson Farms Championship. How about walking the course for hours just to do a practice round. No thanks.
As Dahmen and his foursome chatted about the NFL, Russell Wilson, and Washington football at The Country Club of Jackson it was clear that Dahmen had a different outlook on the day.
Practice rounds are not something to be ashamed of. Practice rounds are a great way to get ready for the weekend with your friends, even if they include a former Oregon Duck like Ben Crane.
Dahmen said to the Clarion Ledger that he enjoyed it. This is a lot of fun. You can be serious and still spend time practicing your game. We are very fortunate to be able to spend many hours, weeks and even months with our closest friends. “Typical jobs won’t let you do that.”
What worked in the practice round translated into a strong start by the Clarkston native, Washington, who began the week ranked No. The FedEx Cup Fall Standings have him at No. 86.
He did his best to remain in the top 125, which secured him a PGA Tour card for next year. Dahmen has 8-under after two rounds and is five shots behind leader at the end of Friday’s round.
Dahmen replied, “It is nice to have you around.” “I’m hitting it in play.” “I think I’ll be able to hang on this weekend if I just sharpen my irons.”
Joel Dahmen on Netflix’s “Full Swing”
Dahmen is one of the most recognizable PGA Tour players, and it’s not just because of his bucket hat or mustache. Dahmen was the star of the Netflix show “Full Swing”. His personality, his matter-of factness, and his relationship with caddie Geno Bonnali made him relatable for the average fan.
Dahmen didn’t know if he would be featured in the series. The series chronicled a wild professional golf year, including tensions between LIV Golf, the PGA Tour, and other players. He got an entire episode devoted to him. This has led to larger crowds watching and cheering him on.
Dahmen stated that it was a major adjustment. “Most golfers become famous when they win majors or big events, and are in the top 10 of the world. I got famous because of a TV program. It’s different, but great. I would say that 99.9 per cent of the time, it’s been positive. It’s great to be on the first tee with people cheering and rooting for you. “It gives me a little more motivation when things don’t go well.”
Dahmen’s PGA Tour career includes one win. He has missed 12 out of 28 cuts this season. In 11 of his 12 last tournaments, he has missed the cut or placed outside the top-60.
Dahmen stated, “Unfortunately we’ve had a rough road.” “I feel that the game has slipped over the last month or so.”
He placed T-13 in the Sanderson Farms Championship of 2022. This gave him some confidence going into this week and fall.
Dahmen stated, “I feel this is the beginning of my fall.” “Four out of the five weeks, I will be playing.” It’s exciting. This is a golf course that I’m confident in. It’s a course I can play well on.
What will Dahmen do to wind down after a two-day quality day? He will be watching the afternoon play. He’s not going to miss Bonnalie as she is part of the broadcast team.
Dahmen stated, “Geno is an exceptional person in this area.” “He did some last year.” I hope he can show some of his comments that he makes with me on the broadcast. He’s going be great.”
