PHOENIX — John Huston’s caddie has seen the act before.

Travis laughed when asked about his 17-minute, two-hour-long first round Thursday as a caddy for his dad.

Travis stated, “He’s well-known because of how fast he plays, and our entire family is that way. So it’s a great way to be.”

36 golfers qualified for the PGA Tour Champions season finale at Charles Schwab Cup Championship, but only 33 of them arrived at Phoenix Country Club.

Huston, the last golfer to qualify for the field due to the odd number, left the course by himself at 10:20 AM local time (12:20 PM). ET). He birdied the first two holes quickly and was soon running. He was not running, but he was moving quickly around the course.

John stated, “There are not many guys who like to move around, but there are a few.” “It was quite nice to just play at my own speed.”

It worked. Huston made seven birdies, including one at the par-5 closing hole. The putt dropped at 12:37 p.m. EST to complete a 6-under 65. The last group, which included Padraig Harrington and Steve Alker, began their round 23 minutes later.

“The quicker he plays, I have seen him play better.” Travis stated that he expected Travis to play well.

His putting is a masterclass in time management.

He says that he is already reading the green as he walks up to it, so that he has an idea of what he will see when he arrives at the green. He doesn’t like to look around or go on the opposite side. He looks at the back and just goes. It worked quite well.”

John stated that it is not the fastest competitive round he has ever played.

“I played a round faster on the regular Tour than this, but it was Sunday.”

He said “Get-out-of town round”, and added, “I believe it was 1:40 or something.”

Did a marker become available today?

“They didn’t ask. Huston smiled and said that they probably knew.

If his scores are stable, he will play in the final group on Friday.

He joked that they might let him play in the last group by himself.
