John Smoltz, a helluva athlete on the golf course and the mound, is an amazing athlete.
Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Smoltz earned a place in final stage qualifying via PGA Tour Champions Q School after finishing T-14 on this week’s Buckhorn Springs stage at Valrico, Florida. Smoltz finished the first stage at Buckhorn Springs in Valrico, Florida, with scores of 71, 73, 74, 71. He was 1-over for the week and earned one of 18 final qualifying spots.
Smoltz had never finished higher than T-54 during his three previous appearances in the first stage of PGA Tour Champions Q-School.
Smoltz will be one of 80 competitors at the TPC Scottsdale Champions Course next month, when the final stage is held Dec. 5 – 8. There are only five cards available.
Smoltz is slowly making his mark on the golf courses after an illustrious career in baseball. Smoltz was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, won the Cy Young Award, and made eight National League All-Star teams.
Smoltz isn’t competing on the PGA Tour Champions, but he competed in nine tournaments overall. He also played in the 2018 U.S. Senior Open.
