PACIFIC PALISADES (Calif.) — Jon Rahm made it into the final group of the PGA Tour for the second consecutive week. He has taken the lead this time, shooting a 6-under 65 at Riviera Country club on Saturday to take a three-stroke advantage over Max Homa going into the Genesis Invitational.
Rahm said, “Really proud” of his round, which was the best of the day. Rahm said, “Took advantage a few good lies in rough and made every putt I needed to keep this round going. Highlighted by the one on 13.”
Rahm had four birdies on the front nine. He also drilled his tee shot at 245-yard par-3 fourth to 7ft and rolled in the putt. Rahm added another birdie at No. 11, and finished the day with a birdie at 18 from a distance of 24 feet.
He said, “I’ve seen the putt hit a million more times, and we all leave it just two, a few rolls short. So I just wanted it to get there.” It’s a huge bonus to be able make one and increase the lead going into tomorrow.
Rahm, who was the Week No. Rahm, who entered the week No. 3 in the world, was unable to win the titles at Farmers Insurance Open or WM Phoenix Open. But this time, he is the frontrunner.
“Somebody’s coming out tomorrow and somebody’s going shoot a round with 4, 5, 6, 7, 7 under. It happens in every tournament we play, right? So I have to be aware of the fact that someone’s going out tomorrow and somebody’s going down tomorrow. I will have to shoot a 60s shot for sure to give me a chance at winning, he stated. Just be aware that I must keep doing the same thing I have done up until now.
Rahm seeks his 10th career PGA Tour title. He would be the first player to win 3 times this season. Rahm would also be able to set a new career record for wins in one season. It would be a special win on Sunday, he said.
He stated that Tiger, as the host, is out here playing and that the history of the course as a venue are two reasons why he would love to win. “It’s an elite group of champions and you’ll join the list of champions which Tiger and Jack have not joined, which probably never happens at any other golf course than this one.
