KAPALUA (Hawaii) – Jon Rahm wore a black shirt and pants Sunday as he shot 10-under 63 at Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course. made an unlikely comeback to win 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Rahm spoke out about why he chose the Tiger Woods outfit during his winner’s conference.
“I didn’t want to wear navy every single day. I put on the black shoes, not that I had any hope but it felt like we were going to need a small miracle. After I had bogeyed 1, I knew that I would need a bigger miracle. Rahm stated, “You just have to do the little things correctly.”
Unsaid was the reason Rahm wore blue pants throughout the third round in Maui.
Rahm stated, “You want the truth?” I forgot nearly all of the belts that I was supposed bring. I brought a navy and black belts. Kelley was also there.
“Then, I went to Sunday, and I said, “I don’t want to wear navy pant again.” So, since we’re getting up at 10 a.m. to get ready for work, the black pants are gone. That’s all I have to say. It’s not a good answer to a stupid question but it’s the truth. Because of Tiger, I don’t usually want to wear anything close to red and black on Sundays. This is his outfit. This is why I often wear gray, navy, or other colors. He is too close for me.”
Rahm also admitted that he had forgotten socks and needed to have Travis Mathew sponsor him so he could get a black belt.
He said, “Yeah. I forgot a few items.”
His game is not the same. Rahm won his eighth Tour title in his career.
He said, “I brought my clubs. That’s all I was thinking about.” “I brought my clubs and kid stuff, but I left a few things behind.”
