LA QUINTA (California) — One of the top golfers in this field is aware of The American Express’ strength.
Jon Rahm, No. 1, said that “you want to beat the greatest.” The world ranking is 5 and Jon Rahm is the No. 7 player. He will be teeing it off in La Quinta, this week. “And I’m glad people have come. It’s great that more people are participating in more events.
According to PGA Tour metrics, this year’s The American Express field is the strongest this century. Rahm, who was the 2018 desert champion, is joined by No. Scottie Scheffler (Masters champion) is No. 4 Patrick Cantlay (No. 6 Xander Schauffele and No. 7 Will Zalatoris. The $8 million event will also feature four other players, ranging from 10th to 18th.
Rahm stated that the new schedule of 17 tournaments with $20 million purses, which required top players to attend in order for them to be eligible for Player Impact Program bonus money, may have been beneficial for La Quinta.
Rahm stated that it was due to “some of the new events happening during the year.” The fact that there are so many big events we need to participate in if we want the PIP reward. This opens up to the three, let’s just say, lower events you must play. Because your schedule changes, it opens up possibilities for people to play events that they may not have seen before.
The American Express will open for 64th consecutive year on Thursday. There are 156 pros and 156 amateurs playing on three courses – Pete Dye Stadium Course, Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West, and La Quinta Country Club.
Rahm is certain to be a major attraction at the tournament. He is one of the nine past champs in the field and he also comes to the tournament off his eighth PGA Tour win, a win at Sentry Tournament of Champions, Hawaii, two weeks ago.
Rahm will be playing in the three events on the West Coast Swing at Sentry and WM Phoenix Open. It is the beginning of a busy season on Tour. He will also be playing next week in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course, San Diego. Rahm has won the 2021 U.S Open as well as on Tour in 2017.
Rahm says that the La Quinta tournament doesn’t just revolve around great weather and the conditions on the three courses. This tournament is also an opportunity to return to “normal circumstances”, as opposed to Hawaiian golf, which has stronger crosswinds, slower greens, and uneven lies on sloping fairways.
While you might experience more wind some days, the courses are generally in perfect condition. Rahm stated that you can make sure your equipment is in good condition. Rahm said, “Make sure that if you have been making changes to your swing, you are testing it under pressure in some more relaxed conditions. It’s a great way to tune up for the rest of the year.
Rahm stated that scheduling the new events was not a problem for the Spanish star. He compared the designated events with the Rolex Series on DP World Tour, which require members to participate in the events.
“How do I say it? Rahm stated that in the past, we had a lot more freedom about what we wanted to do. “And we still do. Let’s face it, the only reason we want to play all this is for the PIP reward. They also have bigger purses and events. All of us want it.
Rahm said, “I decided to play only one fall event so now I have to play 19 events in this year.” Rahm said, “I’m playing all of these elevated ones, so I had to add two more. It was very easy to decide. It seems like I can accomplish it by playing here and Torrey pines. It’s mind-boggling to think of Torrey Pines a less important event.
Rahm stated that winning the Sentry tournament in the beginning of the year makes 2023 easier.
“To begin 2023 with a victory, let’s just be honest. It maximizes my chances of getting as many wins possible. He said it was a great start. “I’ve said it several times, I’ve also seen players win that event and then go on for a year. Cam Smith was the last to win last year. It’s a good chance it can get off to a solid start and win a few games and maybe a major.
