Jordan Poyer, Buffalo Bills safety, announced his cancellation of his annual charity golf event at Trump National’s Blue Monster in Doral on Saturday.
Poyer stated that teams and sponsors had pulled out of the event due to its location.
He first expressed his excitement about the tournament being held on one of his favourite courses before explaining why he was forced to cancel it.
“Unfortunately, a large number of teams in the north have withdrawn from the tournament. Poyer posted on Instagram that he had not only pulled out of the tournament, but also written e-mails requesting sponsorship for his tournament from a major sponsor. Poyer said on Instagram that the company had pulled out of his tournament and that it was unfortunate that he didn’t want to participate in it, which he did last year.
Poyer said that the event would benefit the ECMC Foundation, and ECMC was a major sponsor. He said that he has worked with the group more than a full year.
A ECMC representative told the Buffalo News the foundation is only a beneficiary, and not a sponsorship. Susan Gonzalez, executive director of the ECMC Foundation, confirmed that they were only a beneficiary. She told Buffalo News: “We had an excellent partnership and we respect Jordan’s decision to cancel his tourney.”
According to the website of ECMC, “it is a foundation that works to improve higher education to ensure career success for underserved groups through evidence-based innovations.”
Poyer didn’t make it clear how many people and teams dropped out. He expressed his disappointment at the fact that some groups could not put aside their politics to help his cause.
“I thought we had gotten past it and I hoped that we had. We haven’t, and this seems to be the current state of America. He said that our egos get in the middle of being good humans. “And that is sharing love, conversations, and laughter with others who may not believe the same things as you.”
