GREENSBORO (N.C.) — Russell Henley has turned the clock back a little, to 2021.
He had a great start to the season with a 62 in the first round and a 64 on the second, but then he faltered on the final day and lost out on the six-man playoff. He shot a second 62 this week in the first round, and then followed that up with a 66 on Friday at Sedgefield Country Club. This gave him a one stroke lead over Billy Horschel by the halfway point of the regular season finale.
Henley’s aim is to avoid, as Yogi once said, déjà vu all over again. Don’t fold up like Sunday papers on Sunday.
“I was in complete control of the event. I missed some short putts and had a few bad swings in the back. I missed the playoff by a single shot. Henley, who lost the lead in 2021, said: “It hurts to lose it there because I played well for the first 60 holes or however many you want to call them.” “But, again, I have to play the full 72 holes,” Henley said. It’s hard to finish, but I am excited for another weekend.
