Keegan Brad on AimPoint, ‘In 10 Years, No One Will Read Greens’

Aug, 2023

AimPoint has been discussed a lot on social media and in broadcasts. AimPoint, if you are unfamiliar with it, is a tool used by many players on PGA Tour to read greens. It allows them feel the break in a putt and then assign a slope percent based on their feel. Then, they use their fingertips to locate the starting line.

The process has been ridiculed by fans for years, who claim that it is too slow and unnecessary for short putts.

Tour players have had success with AimPoint in the past few years.

Keegan Bradley is a great example.

AimPoint was used by the New Englander to win TPC River Highlands’ Travelers Championship earlier this year, in Connecticut. He beat Zac Blair (Open champion) and Brian Harman (Open champion) by three shots.

Bradley appeared as a guest in the latest episode of Barstool Sports Fore Play Golf’s “Side Gig With Dan Rapaport” series.

Bradley was asked to describe his approach on the first green.

“Now that I have been using AimPoint for a while, I don’t let my eyes tell anything,” he explained. I’m telling you that in 10 years when all these younger students have graduated, nobody will be able to read greens. Zero.”

Rapaport asked: “And this doesn’t elicit an emotion in you?”

Bradley asked, “What is the difference?”

Rapaport joked that “Golf is all about …” before Bradley said, “Bending Down?” What is it?

Bradley, a player that has had a lot of trouble with the flatstick for most of his career is 18th on Strokes Gained – Putting this Season on Tour. Bradley was ranked 186th in 2021 (-.548).
