Cleveland Launcher XL2 drivers
The Deep Dive – Cleveland’s newest Launcher driver generation will not be seen on the PGA Tour. Neither the DP World Tour nor the LPGA. Srixon’s, Cleveland’s sister-brand under the Dunlop Sports umbrella offers a wide range of drivers for elite players. Cleveland designers can therefore focus on woods designed to help weekend golfers and recreational players. In order to achieve this, they focus on different aspects of performance when sitting at the virtual drawing board. For the Launcher XL 2 Family, extra forgiveness is the result.
Cleveland invested in computing power, which helped the designers design the Launcher XL 2 driver’s hitting area. The system created new titanium faces with variable thickness that provide better ball speed protection when mis-hitting drives. This should be particularly helpful for a driver designed specifically for weekend golfers and recreational players, rather than tour pros.
MainFrame XL’s faces now feature the second-generation Rebound Frame. This technology was first introduced in Srixon ZX drivers in 2020. Cleveland’s designers created a flexible area behind the rigid area where the face meets chassis. The body of the club stiffens up behind the flexible area. This system works like a spring, allowing for the face to flex at impact before rebounding. Launcher XL 2 drivers benefit from a trampoline-like effect that increases ball speed across a larger surface area.
Cleveland used computer simulations for the design of hitting areas and also to test thousands different internal weight pads. Cleveland used the computer system to analyze how weight distribution can improve performance after identifying the common locations where recreational golfers miss their shots. This allowed designers to adjust the launch and spin characteristics to suit weekend golfers, rather than tour pros.
Cleveland created a network of ribs inside the head to improve the acoustics and the sound of the impact.

Launcher XL 2 Drivers come with an 8-gram internal weight in the top of the shaft as standard. The weight acts as a balance and should make it easier to swing the clubs, especially when you are taking them away.
The Launcher XL 2 Drivers look large and reassuring from the address position. Hideki Koepka and Brooks Koepka won’t be using these clubs, so Cleveland engineers were able to make them larger from the front to the back to appear easier to strike.
The Launcher XL 2 comes in two different versions, a standard version and a draw version. The standard XL 2 is slightly biased towards the draw, while the Draw model appears to be more closed in the address position. This should provide better slice fitting assistance. The Draw version produces more spin, a higher flight and has a greater draw bias.
