While the Genesis Invitational golf at the historic Riviera Country Club was spectacular, there was another story that stole the headlines.
After outdriving Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods gave Justin Thomas a tampon on the 9th hole. Although the joke was not well received by fans and media, many others found it acceptable.
Suzann Pettersen, Europe’s 2023 Solheim Cup Captain, was one of those who didn’t seem bothered.
Pettersen stated that the joke was not meant to offend in any way and described it as a “boyish joke”.
“I know Tiger well, Justin Thomas is not as well. But I do know some of Tiger’s humor, which is a probably boyish joke between them. I don’t take it too personally.
“I believe that it was meant to be a joke between them, and unfortunately cameras caught it in the heat. I don’t know what he meant, but I don’t believe he meant it to be offensive.
“I find it quite easy to do things like that. It was a joke and not harassment of women in general.
Pettersen was announced as the 2024 Solheim Cup Captain earlier in the week. This means that she will play an important role for the European team at two successive editions of this event.
