THE WOODLANDS (Texas) — The World No. Lydia Ko, the world’s number one golfer, arrived early at the Chevron Championship. She said that she almost ran out of ball in the first loop on the Nicklaus course at the Club at Carlton Woods.
Ko admitted earlier this week that he struggled to play the course the first couple of times. “I didn’t know what I was going to do.”
Ko’s round 2 score of 76, with a birdie at the last hole, was 3 over par for the tournament. She missed the cut for the first major since the AIG Women’s British Open in 2019.
The play was suspended Friday night due to darkness, with 31 players left to finish. The players returned to the course at 7 am Saturday morning, and 68 of them made it, resulting in a score of 1 over.
The field was bigger this week (135 players) than it was in previous years due to daylight saving, but the cut at the top 65 and ties was smaller. The first time ever in tournament history those who missed the top 65 and ties received $5,000 of unofficial money.
