The Grant Thornton Invitational team pairings are being rearranged due to a big change in Jessica Korda’s life. She is now a six-time LPGA Tour champion.
Korda, 30, committed to playing in the mixed team event last February with Rickie. In August, however, she revealed that she was pregnant with her first child, which she is expecting together with her husband Johnny DelPrete. The pro golfer has pulled out of the Grant Thornton which will be held Dec. 8-10, at Tiburon Country Club in Naples, due to the birth of her baby in February.
Fowler and Lexi Thompson, a 11-time LPGA Tour winner, will be one of 16 teams competing to win the $4 million prize purse.
When it debuts in the Challenge Season, the Grant Thornton will feature three distinct formats: scramble (foursome), modified four-ball and foursome.
Lexi Thompson to be the first woman in PGA Tour History
Fowler and Thompson join Nelly Korda, Tony Finau, Sahith theegala, Rose Zhang, and Canadian golfers Corey Conners, Brook Henderson, as the fourth confirmed team pairing for the Grant Thornton Invitational.
Thompson and Nelly Korda were the only two women to compete in the 2022 QBE Shootout. Korda and Denny McCarthy tied for fifth place, while Thompson and Maverick Mcnealy tied in 10th. Theegala and Tom Hoge won last year’s QBE. They came from behind in the final round by two to beat Ryan Palmer and Charley Hoffman.
