Lexi Thompson was pumped to smash the QBE Shootout bombs with Maverick McNealy, her new partner

Dec, 2022

Lexi Thompson will be back at the QBE Shootout for the sixth time, while Maverick McNealy is a rookie. On Wednesday, the former Stanford star was able to take a look at Tiburon Golf Course. Thompson competed at Tiburon Golf Course last month in the CME Group Tour Championship, which concluded the LPGA season. In 2018, she won the CME at Tiburon.

Thompson said, “I know that he’s great,” when Thompson and Thompson were asked about their knowledge of each other at 27. McNealy spoke out about their common competitive drive.

He said, “We are not coming here to exhibit.” “I want to give you as many good views from the fairway and just hit it right at flag. I am so excited.

The Associated Press reported earlier this week that the QBE would be a mixed-team event with the PGA Tour, LPGA and LPGA starting in 2023. Since more than 20 years, there hasn’t been a mixed-team event between the two tours.

Thompson said that golf is such an individual sport, and that he wanted more team events. However, Thompson stated that there should be mixed gender teams. It will be great for golf. Team events will bring in a larger fan base. People love to watch us play, fist pump, and be there for one another.

McNealy added: “I completely agree. I think any opportunity you have to get the best golfers around the world period together, competing, that would be a great thing for both of them. It would be amazing, I think.

Ten of the 12 teams present this week will be together in the first ever team event. This event, which celebrates its 34th anniversary, will have a scramble format Friday, modified alternate shots Saturday, and four-ball Sunday.

Thompson, who grew up with her two older brothers, loved the chance to play the back Tees. She will remember the good times of her youth as she plays at Tiburon’s yardage of 7,382. CME was the official yardage for the LPGA at 6,556.

Thompson said, “I wanted all the way back to play with the guys.” I was like, “I don’t want play forward, let me just give myself a challenge.” I love that I can hit driver on every hole. It’s rare that I get this opportunity when I play golf, so I love hitting the mid- and long irons.
