LAS VEGAS – Although a few intriguing storylines jump off the page for the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open at TPC, Summerlin, Lexi Thompson will be the focus of attention when she tees of Thursday as part of a trio with Kevin Roy and Trevor Werbylo. She is the seventh woman to play on PGA Tour.
Thompson’s exclusion caused at least one Tour participant (Peter Malnati), to suggest that the move may have been an overreach by the tournament organizers. (See Malnati’s full comments below). But Thompson calmly dismissed the incident when she met with the media on Tuesday.
“No reaction. I knew that some comments would be made. Thompson added, “I’m here with the men and I am following my dreams, but I also want to send a message to the children that they should follow their dreams with a positive attitude and not let anyone’s reaction or comments get in the way. It’s okay. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I did expect it.
