According to a article published on Wednesday by the Scotsman, LIV Golf Chairman Yasir al-Rumayyan is playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week on the DP World Tour using a false identity.
Al-Rumayyan is the 53-year-old Saudi Arabian governor of the lucrative Public Investment Fund. Johann Rupert invited him, as he is the South African billionaire who organizes the annual pro-am at Carnoustie. Al-Rumayyan, who is listed under the pseudonym Andrew Waterman and will be playing alongside LIV Golf’s Peter Uihlein in the same group with R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers, was invited by Johann Rupert. Non-members Laurie Canter and Talor Gooch, as well as Louis Oosthuizen of LIV Golf are also on the field.
The Scotsman quoted Rupert, chairman of Richemont, Dunhill’s parent firm, and chairman of the championship committee for the event,, as saying that sport should unite, not divide. “We must get peace.”
Al-Rumayyan played in last year’s Alfred Dunhill event, and is also the Chairman of Saudi Aramco, Premier League team Newcastle United. Al-Rumayyan, who is also the chairman of Saudi Aramco and Premier League team Newcastle United, played in the Alfred Dunhill event last year.
