LIV Golf claims credit for PGA Tour schedule adjustments

Golfweek reported Wednesday morning that the PGA Tour had made radical schedule changes for 2024. This included a reduction in field size for designated events with no 36-hole cut.

LIV Golf could not help but respond to the news by tweeting: “Imitation, the greatest form flattery.” Congratulations to the PGA Tour. “Welcome to the future!”

Greg Norman’s upstart circuit, which is financially supported by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, features 48-player, 54-hole events with no cuts. It often boasts about its “innovative golf format.” Read Andy Gardiner ‘s thoughts about it.

LIV Golf’s emergence is a factor in the PGA Tour’s changes. However, it is a stretch to say that the Tour is trying to imitate LIV Golf. The cuts in World Golf Championship events were not available, nor are current events like the CJ Cup or Zozo Championship.

Rory McIlroy said that no-cut events were only possible because LIV has arrived. This was Rory McIlroy’s statement ahead of the Bay Hill Arnold Palmer Invitational. There is precedent for no cut events. Since I was a Tour member, there have been no-cut events.
