Only 16 players remain to compete in the final major men’s event of the year, Royal Liverpool, which will take place next month, from July 20-23.
A LIV Golfer will try to earn his place the hard way just like he did at the U.S. Open. Another will end his nearly three-decade long streak of competing in the national open.
Lee Westwood, who has not played in the British Open for 28 years, will be missing his first British Open after Sergio Garcia. Westwood has also been denied entry to the Senior Open because of unpaid DP World Tour fees related to his move onto the Saudi Arabian-backed circuit. Ian Poulter also chose not to participate in final qualifying. The Telegraph was the first to report .
Garcia will play 36 holes of qualifying on Tuesday, July 4 between two LIV Golf League tournaments in Spain (June 30 – July 2) and London (7 – 9th). Of the 52 players who have teed it up for the LIV this season, 21 of them have reached the final qualifying round across all four sites.
