LIV Golf’s Pat Perez claims credit for comments made by Dustin Johnson about PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

Apr, 2023

Pat Perez told that he was paid after winning the LIV Golf team championship in Miami, last fall. In the press conference following his victory, Perez said: “I don’t care a damn.”

Perez, who will be playing in the first event of the new circuit’s season at Mayakoba (a former PGA Tour site) in Mexico, explained that he was excited to be there: “I love it, because we are here, and the Tour isn’t.” “End quote.”

It should not be surprising that Perez, 47, took credit for some salacious comments made against PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan that were misattributed to Dustin Johnson.

Perez replied in a message to Sports Illustrated that he was the one who had made the remarks about Monahan, after the 4Aces team won the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament in Australia on Sunday.

According to the Australian Associated Press, Johnson said about Monahan that “we don’t care what he feels.” We know what he thinks of us, and it’s reciprocal.

Perez and Johnson both backed up the claim that made these comments.

“DJ didn’t say anything, it was me,” Perez told SI. “I said that we don’t really care what Jay thinks because we already know his feelings about us. When I say we, I am referring to me. I can’t talk for the group.”

LIV Golf removed the interaction from the transcript of the press conference, which contributed to the bad news reports that have been circulating over the past two days.

MacNeille said to SI that they were trying to avoid this kind of hostility during their press conferences. “The question sparked a flurry of chatter, and everyone said ‘no comment’ except one player (Perez), and it was difficult to understand as it was a chaotic scene. We decided to remove the question from the transcript.”

This week, LIV Golf Singapore is being played at Sentosa Golf Club by the Greg Norman-led league backed by Saudi Arabia.
