The 2023 U.S. Open was made up of amateurs. This number could have been even higher.
Gordon Sargent, the top-ranked player, is on the field. Michael Thorbjornsen, ranked No. 2, and Michael Brennan, ranked No. 9, are also on the field. 9 Michael Brennan. Nineteen amateurs played the first two rounds at Los Angeles Country Club. But most have packed their bags now that they’ve spent two days on the West Coast.

Four amateurs are the only ones who have earned weekend tee-times and they will compete for the medal of the lowest amateur, which will be awarded at Sunday’s end of play trophy presentation.
