Lucas Glover, a ‘world-beater in golf’ who is a major champion, wants the media to respect him.

Brian Harman’s wife was in tears as she watched Lucas Glover win the Wyndham Championship.

“I know what that means to Lucas.” Harman said, “I know what it means for his children,” at the BMW Championship this week. You saw his daughter there, and she was just sobbing her eyes out. It was a beautiful scene.”

He said that it was difficult to express how impressed and proud he is of Lucas Glover, just because of the things he has been through.

Glover has been dealing with yips for more than a decade, and would sometimes lose feeling when he was putting a 10 inch putt. He switched to a putter that had a split-handed handle and won two PGA Tour tournaments in the past week, the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the Wyndham.

It’s been incredible. Rory McIlroy was Glover’s partner in the first two round. “I saw something from Data Golf just a few days ago, and I thought he was like the ninth-best ball striker from the ShotLink era of 2004,” said McIlroy. We know he has the tools to succeed from tee-to-green. He was trying to figure out the best way to put the ball into the hole. With this long putter he has certainly begun to do that.”

Harman recalled, “I remember, when I moved to St. Simons for the first time, we would go out to play golf. It was before I got my Tour card, and I thought, ‘I’m not sure how I’m going to ever beat this guy’.” “He was amazing. He has such good hands. He put it so well. He goes through all that and, as I said, to be able to come out on the other side, is unreal.

Harman said, “I think we all — we struggle sometimes,” and Lucas struggled with his putter. He was like — he talked about putting with his left hand.

The 43-year old has secured his place in the Tour Championship next week and is now a candidate for a Ryder Cup Captain’s Pick. Harman hopes that golfers and fans will respect his name.

“Lucas, I read an article recently that made me angry. Lucas Glover was called a journeyman. “It said Lucas Glover was a journeyman, and I thought that it was a ridiculous statement,” said Harman. This guy has won, I don’t even know how many Tour Championships. He’s now won six or seven time. Lucas Glover has a record that is unbeatable.

Glover won the U.S. Open in 2009 at Bethpage Black and has, yes, six wins total on Tour. This article was not published in Golfweek.

Harman said, “I think of Andy Dufresne crawling across the river to get out the other end, and I’m so happy for him.” “I’m proud of him and I’m happy for him.”

It’s wonderful to see. McIlroy added, “He’s a wonderful guy.” You won’t find anyone on Tour who has anything bad to say about Lucas. “I think that everyone is happy to see him perform so well.”

Don’t call a 22-year veteran “journeyman”.
