Ludvig Aberg hired a caddie with experience to be his bagman for his first season on the PGA Tour, in 2024.
Aberg, a Swede aged 24 who turned professional in June following a distinguished amateur and college career, has added Joe Skovron, Golf Channel.com reported.
Skovron (42), had been the bag carrier for Tom Kim, 21, a rising star since September last year, starting at the Presidents Cup, Charlotte, where Kim broke out in the team competition. Kim won three times in the Tour, twice with Skovron at Las Vegas. He also finished second in the British Open last July. Skovron confirmed his move to Golfweek, but refused to comment further. He did say that he will be in Maui in January with Aberg.
Aberg has been working with Jack Clarke ever since he turned pro. He was at his side when Clarke won the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour in September, and the RSM Classic on the PGA Tour in November. He was also the caddie at the Ryder Cup. Clarke caddied at Aberg’s final event last week, the Grant Thornton Invitational. Aberg was paired up with Madalene Sagastrom, Clarke’s fiancée. He also appeared in Naples as a Titleist Ambassador last week.
Aberg is a finalist in the Tour’s Rookie Of The Year. He won PGA Tour University and has quickly become one of golf’s most sought-after bags. Skovron who caddied for Rickie for 13 years is now giving up Kim’s bag, the 11 th-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, for Aberg who has soared from No. 32. Aberg is considered by many to be able to break into the Top 10 and claim No. 1.
Skovron would be an excellent addition to his team. He is a professional who knows how to prepare a player to perform at his best.
Kim has not yet named a replacement for Skovron. His agent said in a text message that he would have a new caddie working at The Sentry on Maui.
