Marcus Byrd began the season as a winner, and this trend has continued throughout the entire season.
The 25-year old won his third APGA Tour event in four starts on Tuesday at TPC Deere Run, in Silvis Illinois. Byrd won by two shots with rounds of 66 and 67. Chase Johnson shot an 8-under-63 on Tuesday, the lowest round. Jarred Garcia finished second at 7-under.
Byrd also won the APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Invitational, the APGA Florida, and the APGA Scottsdale. He was also granted exemptions to three PGA Tour tournaments: the Genesis Invitational (held in April), Honda Classic (held in May) and Wells Fargo Championship.
“The PGA Tour is definitely a big help. It’s amazing to see the hard work these guys put in. Byrd said, “I learned to be calm and stay within myself.” Byrd earned $7,500 out of the $25,000 purse. “I was able to overcome adversity and I know what I have to do now after the PGA Tour.”
The TPC Deere Run event was also the launch of the Cisco Junior Series 2023, which includes four tournaments in which 18-and under minority players compete on APGA Tour events. Jayden Lizama took the boys’ division with rounds 71-73 while Staci Pl won the girls’ division with rounds 71-74.
The APGA Tour will be playing with the APGA Tour in Louisville, Kentucky, from July 23-25.
