Marcus Byrd wins Valhalla title, sets APGA record for fourth win in a season

Jul, 2023

Marcus Byrd has had a great year on the APGA Tour. In fact, it was a record-breaking year for Marcus Byrd on the APGA Tour.

Byrd won the APGA on Tuesday at Valhalla Golf Club. It was his fourth trophy of the year and the most ever in the history of the fledgling APGA tour.

Byrd, 26 years old, beat Ryan Ellerbrock by three strokes, who was playing his first APGA Tour. Quinn Riley, Rovonta Yount and Quinn Riley finished in a tie at third place. They were four shots behind the leader.

The last six months were incredible, but they’ve been non-stop. Byrd, referring to a few PGA Tour events that didn’t lead to much success, said: “I feel like I have gotten these chances and haven’t performed the way that I wanted.” I took some time off following the John Deere classic and it really helped me with this victory today. “My goals are to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School this fall and win the APGA Tour Lexus Cup Point Standings.”

Willie Mack III, Tim O’Neal and others had previously won three times in a single season. Mack now plays full-time on the Korn Ferry Tour and O’Neal is a full member of the PGA Tour Champions.

The APGA Ascension Classic will be held in St. Louis from August 8-10, followed by the APGA Two-Man Classic.

The season will conclude with the Mastercard APGA Tour Championship, which takes place at TPC Sugarloaf between August 13-15.
