Matthew Wolff has had a tough time lately.
The 24-year old withdrew his name from the U.S. Open final qualifying took place at Pine Tree Golf Club, Boynton Beach, Florida on Monday, as rumors continued to circulate about his status in the Greg Norman and Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf League. Wolff left early at a U.S. Open qualifying event last year after walking off the course due to a poor shot.
Last week was the first to notice that Wolff’s name was taken off of social media accounts for Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC.
Wolff, who started the season with T-7, T-10 and T-5 finishes, has struggled in the last two month with T-44, T-40 and T-30 finishes. He most recently withdrew from LIV Golf Washington D.C. after two rounds of 72-78. So far, Wolff has earned $2.821,667 in seven events.
LIV Golf refused to comment. The league will return to action in Spain later this month on June 30th and July 2nd.
Wolff won his first PGA Tour event just a few weeks after turning pro. The 2019 3M Open was his first win on the PGA Tour. He showed flashes with his unique golf swing the next summer, finishing T-4 at PGA Championship and 2nd at U.S. Open. Then the struggles and pandemic of professional golf took hold.
Wolff, who is open about his struggles with mental health on the PGA Tour and has joined LIV since its inaugural event last summer in London, has spoken out about his struggle.
