Maverick McNealy hopes that some of his grandma’s cooking will help him win the first PGA Tour victory at Pebble Beach

Jan, 2023

Pebble Beach is a special place within Maverick McNealy’s heart.

McNealy, 16 years old, played the famous track for the first time. McNealy grew up on The Hay’s short course, and he played it with his brothers as a child.

McNealy, who is now a professional, has had success returning to the Monterey Peninsula for AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. McNealy has finished in the top five twice, with one winning a silver medal after Daniel Berger in 2021.

“This is one my favorite events every year on Tour. The golf courses are my favorite. He said Tuesday that any day at Pebble Beach with short sleeves is going to be a “bucket list day” during a media meet-up.

McNealy is back in his happy place, his game intact.

The 27-year old has now collected five top-20 finishes in seven official starts, including three top 10, since missing the Fortinet Championship’s season-opening weekend.

“I feel like this year I have done everything just a bit better. He said that Putting was a bright spot for him, and he has done it consistently week in, week out.

“Just tweaking small things here and there. There is no magic way to overcome the obstacles and hump. I just try to find small ways to improve my skills.

McNealy was runner-up in California twice during his Tour career. It is no wonder that McNealy loves pegging it in his state. Two things: Poa Annua grass, and…

Grandma’s homemade cooking.

“I could begin with the home cooking. He said that he would cook for grandma this week while I stay with my grandparents.

Is the Stanford grad too focused on himself this week, with family visiting, a meaningful venue and no Tour win?

McNealy stated, “I think very, very much in the moment.” McNealy said, “The future and the past are just things that you make up in your head. The only thing that really matters is the present.”

To be honest, I am only focusing on a handful of things right now. My focus is on improving my putting speed, seeing lines on the greens, maintaining my golf swing, making sure my body is healthy and ready for action, and last but not least, getting enough sleep.

McNealy has had a great season thanks to his flat stick. He is ranked second in SG-Putting and should be able keep the momentum going on his favorite surface.

He’s excited to get started on Thursday, despite all the distractions.

“I feel like this week is a great opportunity to be great. He said that he doesn’t feel under any pressure. “I’m just focusing on what I am doing right now and hoping it all works out.”
