Max Homa won more HTML5 million Saturday afternoon by winning the Farmers Insurance Open. He also finished with a birdie at Torrey Pines, San Diego, to defeat Keegan Bradley and a host of other major champions on the PGA Tour.
How did he celebrate his victory? He celebrated another win at a well-known municipal course, but this time with a smaller prize.
Homa is now a six-time winner of the PGA Tour and has earned more than $4,000,000 in earnings in five events. On Monday, Homa shot 5-under 67 at Papago Golf Club, Phoenix to win the stroke play pot in a popular skins tournament.
His prize starting Monday: $400
We don’t need more reasons to praise Max Homa. Two days after he won his sixth PGA Tour event, he arrives at a Phoenix municipal course to play a weekly skins match. This is the heart of what makes this game so special. pic.twitter.com/jNBqH098Hc

Before you think he beat up a bunch locals with muni game, it’s worth noting that the Papago skins tournament was full that day with excellent players, pros and amateurs alike. Griffin Wood, second in the PGA Tour Canada, is a player on the series.
Papago is in a difficult spot to make rent money. I am assuming that a par on Monday’s par-5 ninth hole didn’t make it into Monday’s skins pot. It appears that the money of the entrants was split between a low-gross prize pool and a skins pit.
Papago ranks No. 20 on Golfweek Best’s list of the top public-access courses. The Arizona State University’s muni track is located near Papago. It has been renovated in recent years. This layout sees many rounds every year and is usually in great condition. The attached restaurant is a top-notch, as this writer can attest.

It’s a great look, and Homa has quickly become a star on the PGA Tour, as well as social media. His quick wit, availability, and quick wit have created a almost-Arnold Palmer-like following. Although it’s difficult to imagine PGA Tour winners mingling in a muni crowd with Homa, he is a natural in almost any setting.
Homa’s round answered a question that many local golfers have about their home-access tracks: What would a PGA Tour star score there? The Papago crowd knows the answer.
