Megan Khang enjoys ‘The Ultimatum,’ Portland with no pressure.

Sep, 2023

Megan Khang, who had to endure nearly 200 LPGA starts before she won her first win last weekend at the CPKC Women’s Open in Vancouver, needed to take a breather this week as she settled into the Portland Classic.

Khang, who is living with Nelly Kodra, a friend of hers, surprised her with balloons. But other than that, she has been laying low, watching nightly episodes of “The Ultimatum” on Netflix. The show is hosted by Nick Lachey, and Vanessa is his wife. It is a kind of social experiment to see how people react in new situations.

Khang, who has an LPGA title to her name, is certainly doing well if she is learning how to play this week.

Khang shot her second consecutive 66 on Friday at Columbia Edgewater Country Club. She went to the clubhouse alone, atop of the leaderboard, after 36 holes. She was poised to win twice as many prizes after finally opening up the floodgates.

Khang finished the day with her first bogey of the tournament but it was good enough for her to be in a strong position by the halfway point. She entered the media tent with the poise and confidence of a champion, but she did insist that the final hole kept her in check.

“Honestly, I think I’m just a little mellowed because I bogeyed my last hole. “No one enjoys bogeying a hole, but it gives you more to work on,” said she. It’s been a long, tiring week, but I feel like I’m in a better place. It’s okay to be mentally tired. Take it easy and don’t over-exhaust myself. Relax when you can. It’s been a long, hard week.”

Madelene Sagstrom is one of the players who are pushing Khang, having missed the cut on four occasions in her five previous starts. Sagstrom, who has two consecutive rounds of 67s, is just two strokes back from Khang.

“I can honestly say that I have not made any mistakes.” I have been playing it. I didn’t have my “A” game when I arrived here. Sagstrom admitted that he had been struggling on the course. We set up a slightly different game plan for this week. It’s just a matter of hitting the fairway, however it arrives and going more to the center of the green. It seems like I played better last year.

“Giving me some good chances.” When I needed them, I took the chances. “I haven’t really made many mistakes.

The social calendar for this week is more exciting than Khang’s weekend approach.

She said, “It will sound like a broken recording, fairways, greens and we’ll watch how the course dries.” “We’ll just see how we do and take it from there.”

Why is she so addicted to Netflix?

She said, “It is so funny and dramatic.”
