Megan Khang is on a roll in Canada as she looks to win her first LPGA title.

Aug, 2023

Megan Khang, who had three consecutive bogeys in her first round at the CPKC Women’s Open held at Shaughnessy Country Club & Golf Club in Vancouver, was anxious to improve her game a bit during the second round. She didn’t want to repeat the same mistake that dropped her down on the leaderboard last Thursday.

Khang, 25, jumped ahead of the rest and grabbed the lead in the clubhouse at 7 under, after the first wave.

Khang is one of only two players who broke 70 in the first wave. The other was local favorite Brooke Henderson. Henderson’s 68 in Friday’s round was not enough to get her near the top, after she struggled to a 75 on Thursday. She is six strokes behind Khang at 1 under. Linn Grant sits a stroke back of Khang, Jin Young Ko is two strokes behind and Nelly Korda is three strokes off Khang.

“Today was a great day. Yesterday I felt pretty good. Khang explained that it was a bad feeling to finish three consecutive bogeys. “I knew I could play some good golf here,” he said. “Each day can be different, but yeah, my ball striking was pretty hot mid-round and then my putting got hot too,” Khang said.

“So, just like being patient there.” “The front nine was monotonous, making just one birdie. But on this type of golf course, par is your friend. And sometimes, it’s an excellent par.”

The CPKC Women’s Open is the final event to qualify players for the U.S. Solheim Cup 2023 team. However, Khang doesn’t need to worry as she has already secured a place along with Lilia Vu and Nelly Korda. Khang is still looking for her first LPGA win, despite being a dominant force in the LPGA ever since she turned professional at age 18.

She knows she has a lot of work ahead of her if she wants to win the first round.

“Honestly, I don’t think you can get comfortable on this golf course.” Khang explained that the fairways were tight and greens fast and firm. “I don’t take anything for granted,” he said. “I just go out there and try to take one shot at a moment.” You know, Yuka plays the course as well as I do.

It’s a game for everyone. “I’m trying to not look at anyone but stay within myself.”
