Megan Schofill beats Latanna Stone to win 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur

LOS ANGELES — Megan Schofill was unflappable.

Her tee shot on the par-5 14th sailed left into the mulch-covered side of a canyon. She found her ball but just laughed as she and her caddie, boyfriend C.J. Easley, tried to figure out what what next.

They settled on a punch shot, however, she ended up losing the hole.

But it didn’t matter.

Schofill was steady all day Sunday, playing strong and capitalizing when she had opportunities, and in doing so held off Latanna Stone to win the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur 4 and 3 at Bel-Air Country Club.

Schofill and Stone hit nearly identical tee shots on the par-4 15th, and Schofill hit her approach first. She smoked an iron to within a couple feet. Meanwhile, Stone needing a strong shot to respond, ended up hitting her second short and right in the rough.

Although she hit a strong third shot, Stone’s par putt lipped out, and Schofill clinched the title.
