THE WOODLANDS (Texas) – Nelly Korda, who lives in Florida, uses a tripod to record about 20 swings during each session. Korda has at least 6,000 videos stored on her phone and possibly more. She is constantly upgrading her iCloud space.
The World No. 2 was satisfied with the swing she saw on the video playback when she left for the Chevron Championships in Texas. The World No. 2 was satisfied with her swing after watching the video.
Korda, on a wet Thursday at The Club at Carlton Woods’ Nicklaus Course, birdied four of the five par 5s during Round 1. She was now only one stroke behind leader Peiyun Chen. Two birdies in a row on her final two holes, including a controlled 50-degree wedge at 1 foot, helped Korda close the round with 68.
She said, “Overall I played well.” “It’s nice to have finished the way I did, with a tap-in, but I made some mistakes. I was a bit too aggressive in the yardage and left myself with a short-sided chip. With the rain we had during the delay, it wasn’t clear how the ball would react. I didn’t know if it would bump-and run it or flop it.

“I made a few mistakes, but it’s expected at a major championship.”
Korda has been concentrating on her swing-solo in recent months, noting the fact that her jet lag had left her with a difficult time balancing after returning from Singapore.
She said that the constant videoing does not make her a technically proficient player. She is simply checking to see if she is hitting the right spots with her swing.
Eight-time LPGA champion and Olympic gold medalist, who has one of the best swings of all time, says she makes most of her mistakes in the backswing.

She said, “It is hard because I was raised in an academy where I always had a coach who would check my position after each shot.”
“But when you are alone, as I am most of the time, it is hard to tell if a swing was good or not, because every day your feeling changes. This is why I am so obsessed with videoing. It’s to make sure I’m hitting the positions that I want.
