To enjoy the latest sports entertainment venue in Massachusetts, you don’t need to be a professional golfer.
Topgolf is making its way into the Bay State. It’s a high-tech driving range and bar, as well as a restaurant and bar. The company announced that the first location of Topgolf is under construction in Canton. It is expected that the new location will open in the second half of 2023. Canton is located approximately 20 miles from Boston.
Chris Callaway, Topgolf Chief Development Officer, stated in a press release that Topgolf is often asked about bringing a Topgolf into the Boston area. “We are thrilled to have the chance to join the Canton community, and we can’t thank them enough for their support.”
The three-story new venue will have 90 climate-controlled hitting areas and Toptracer technology. This allows players to track their ball speed, distance and height after they aim the ball at the on-field targets.
You can also enjoy a full menu of food and drinks, music, a rooftop patio, and outdoor patio, as well as year-round, family friendly programs.
Ex-Cumberland Farms Center is under renovation
Topgolf is growing in popularity. There are more than 80 locations in the United States. Long Island, New York is the closest location. Topgolf was merged with Calloway Golf Company 2021. This merger combines the iconic brand of golf equipment with technology-driven entertainment venues.
The Canton venue will be along Dedham Street, I-95 and the former Cumberland Farms distribution and manufacturing center.
Topgolf has been working closely with the community since 2018.
Cumberland Farms purchased the 15-acre property in 2019 for $6.2 million. It included an empty trailer park area. The property was already properly zoned under the Limited Industrial District.
The company donated three acres of land to the town as part of the zoning approval. This includes undeveloped wetlands that are located near the MBTA rail track and along the Neponset River. The donation was approved by the Town Meeting in May 2021.
John Connolly, Chair of the Canton Select Board, stated in a press release that Topgolf is welcome to his community with great joy. “This project will have significant economic impacts on the town of Canton through the création of jobs and increased revenue to support our schools, municipal services, and other programs. It also has the environmental and aesthetic benefits that cleans up a blighted area. Canton has a hole in one with this project.
According to the company the Canton location will create around 400 jobs.
How Topgolf works
Topgolf was designed for everyone, no matter their level of experience or age.
You can either reserve a hitting bay online or come in to wait. Each bay can accommodate up to six people and is priced per hour. The hourly rate will vary depending on the day and time. There will also be a $5 one-time membership fee for new players.
All you need to play, including micro-chipped golf balls and clubs, is provided. The screen allows players to enter their information and choose from more that a dozen games, including the Topgolf version or the Angry Birds one.
What is the goal? The goal? To score the most points, aim for the targets. You will earn more points if you are more precise with your shots and farther away. Each shot is recorded by the microchipped ball, which tracks your speed, direction, and points.
You can also enjoy food and drinks at the venue while you play.
Take a look at Fenway Park
Bostonians had a chance to experience Topgolf in 2021 when Fenway Park was a stop on the TopgolfLive Stadium Tour. This tour takes place in iconic stadiums and transforms them into Topgolf experiences. The players aim at the targets on the field from the stands.
Topgolf Live will return to Fenway Park from Nov. 4-9, but only spectator tickets are available at this time.
