The Disc Golf World Championships are currently underway in a resort outside Burlington Vermont.
New Jersey, about seven hours south of Philadelphia, is forcing the closure of a popular disc-golf course.
Stafford Woods, in Vorhees Township in New Jersey, has a high ranking as a course layout. It is also one of the most popular courses in the state for disc golfers.
According to an article by nj.com which states that “all disc-golf components, including baskets and tee pad signs, from the property purchased by the township in 2004,” will be removed.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection determined that the property deed where the course is located allows for “passive recreation” and disc golf was considered to be an “active” sport.
NJ.com claims that the state department made the decision, not the township.
The agency spokesperson did confirm that the closure notice is being reviewed: “We will carefully review the restoration plan, the ongoing use of the property, and be in further contact with the township.”
