Former CBS golf analyst Nick Faldo spoke to James Colgan from Golf.com about why he resigned.
Faldo, who was 16 years the lead analyst on the broadcast team of Jim Nantz, left last year after a powerful and tearful farewell to his colleagues.
Strangely, Colgan was told by the three-time Masters champion that he had been inspired to retire after watching a TikTok clip.
He said, “There was a great TikTok line.” “There are two rats in the cage. The one can jump on the wheel as often as he wishes and go as fast or slow as he likes, but the other must go on the wheel when he comes off.
“You believe you have no choice but to choose the race you are in.” He says that if you are in the rat-race, you don’t have a choice. “But if your speed is controlled, you do.”
“It sort of resonated with my, you know?” “I want to live at my pace.”
Sir Nick and his wife, Nick, have been working on their retirement project. It is 125 acres of property along the Bozeman River, Montana, that he calls “Faldo farm”. The idea was born out of a pandemic binge on the popular TV show Yellowstone.
In his interview with Corgan, Faldo also mentioned another TikTok video on toast.
“Yes, I sent [Jim] Nantz a text the other day. Faldo cites Nantz’s tendency to take a photo of burned toast in TikTok to help him order his breakfast. “So, I sent it and asked him, “What toast are you ordering?”
This is the TikTok (!) bit. This was the part that made Faldo leave CBS. pic.twitter.com/G9Gf25NWd9
