After his retirement last year, Sir Nick Faldo found his next job as a golfer quickly.
The six-time major champion announced Monday that he will become the long-term host of the DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters. The Masters are held at The Belfry in England, until 2026. The 2023 event will be held June 29-July 2.
“It’s an honor to share some exciting news with you. In a Twitter video, he stated that next year’s Betfred British Masters would be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo. It will be played at The Belfry. I have many happy, fun memories of playing there during the Ryder Cup days. It will be hosted by me for five years. I am confident that we’ll have a great field.
Faldo won the 1989 British Masters at Woburn, one of his 30 DP World Tour victories. Faldo did not win an individual tournament at The Belfry. However, he played in three Ryder Cups in Warwickshire. He won twice in 1985, 1989, and posted a record of 2-4-1. Later, he had a 2-1-2 record when the event returned at The Belfry for the 1993 edition. This was the last time that the Europeans lost on their home turf.
As tournament hosts, Danny Willett (2021-22), Lee Westwood (17, 2020), Tommy Fleetwood (1999), Justin Rose (2018) and Luke Donald (2016) have all been previously involved. The Belfry has seen the British Masters champions Thorbjorn Olsen (2022), Lee Westwood (2017, 2020), Tommy Fleetwood (2019), Justin Rose (2018), Luke Donald (2016), and Richard Bland (2019), who at 48 was his first DP World Tour event.
After the last round of CBS’ coverage at the 2022 Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina in August, Faldo concluded his broadcast career. This was also where he made PGA Tour debut in 1979. He was presented with a plaque at the club’s ninth green, which he shares with Arnold Palmer and Charlie Sifford.
