Nick Saban, former Alabama coach Nick Saban, has plenty of time after retirement to indulge his golf addiction

Jan, 2024

After more than 50 years of football, from his days as a defensive-back at Kent State through to his six titles as coach at Alabama Nick Saban has finally retired.

Saban is widely regarded as the greatest college football coach of all time. He was 292-71-1 as the head coach of Toledo, Michigan State LSU, and Alabama. The 72-year old can now indulge his golf addiction, as coaching is in the rearview mirror.

Saban purchased a $17.5-million house in Jupiter, Florida last year. He made headlines in 2022 after playing with Justin Thomas, a former Crimson Tide player, at TPC Sawgrass ahead of the Players Championship. He also shared the greens with MLB legend Ken Griffey Jr. in a place called Augusta National Golf Club.

Saban has joined the Waterfall Club in Clayton, Georgia, an exclusive golf course.

“What’s great about him is that he’s not just going to go play golf and enjoy himself,” said the reigning U.S. Amateur champion and current Alabama golfer, Nick Dunlap. Amateur champion Nick Dunlap. “He’s got that competitive edge.” “He’s always striving to improve.”

Dunlap stated that “Saban sat with me for 2.5 hours before I left for the Am to pick my brain about what he could improve on.” It’s eye opening to me. He doesn’t know how to turn off the switch.

Saban no longer has to worry about recruiting, monitoring the transfer portal, or planning a game plan each week for a different opponent. He can focus his full attention on his golfing. What a life.
