No. World No. 1 Lydia Ko confirmed for Aramco Saudi Ladies Event in February, but not yet for the season-opening LPGA Event later this month at her Lake Nona residence

Lydia Ko has been confirmed by the Aramco Saudi Ladies International to be in the field in February. The World No. The event was won by the World No. 1 and newlywed in 2021. However, this year’s field will be competing for a significantly larger prize pool. The Ladies European Tour’s $5 million prize pool is the largest outside of the majors.

The 2023 LPGA season begins later in the month with the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, Lake Nona. Ko is a resident of this area. To enter the TOC, you must submit your entry by 5 p.m. ET on January 10, and Ko, who is currently on honeymoon, is not yet on the confirmed list.

Royal Greens Golf & Country Club will host the Saudi Ladies International from February 16-19. This is ahead of LPGA’s Asian swing, which includes stops in Thailand and Singapore, as well as China. Between the TOC, the Asian swing and the LPGA schedule, there’s a 1-month break.

Ko was No. 1 last season after winning three times, including the CME Group Tour Championship in Nov. After the season ended, Ko was ranked No. Jun Chung she was married to her at the Myeongdong Cathedral, Seoul, South Korea on December 30th. It is possible that her first event in 2023 will be the Saudi stop.

Ko released that he will always remember his time at Aramco Saudi Ladies International and how he won the title there a few years ago. I look forward to returning to Saudi Arabia within the next few months to continue my 2022.

Saudi’s 120-player field will include 60 LET players, 50 of the top 300 Rolex Rankings players and a maximum number of 10 sponsor invitations. The $750,000 prize will go to the winner.

Ko said, “I’m delighted to see golf moving in the direction toward equal prize money,” adding that it was something Ko and all women on tour have been working hard for. I am grateful for those who support women’s golf and believe in us. They are dedicated to taking this sport to the next level. We are moving in the right direction and I believe that women’s golf will only get better.

Aramco Saudi Ladies Internation and the Aramco Team Series are also featured in the 2023 LET schedule. This series consists of five events that were held around the world. Last year’s Aramco Team winners were Manon De Roey and Bronte Law as well as Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and Nelly Korda. Saudi Arabia will host the final event of the series.

The controversy surrounding the LET’s Saudi-backed events is due to the many human rights violations Saudi Arabia has been accused, particularly towards women.
