Oak Hill is under a freeze warning at the start of the PGA Championship

Rochester and several other counties in western New York have been warned of a freeze.

The warning is valid from 11 pm until 8 am ET on Wednesday. ET Wednesday until 8 a.m. ET Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, Buffalo, widespread frost and temperatures below freezing are expected.

Weather Service Meteorologist Liz Jurkowski said that the temperatures will be near or at freezing in Buffalo, Rochester and other areas around Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and their shores.

The PGA Championship begins on Thursday. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. The tournament begins on Thursday, and the tee time starts at 7 am

Unprotected outdoor plumbing could be damaged by the expected frost. Golfers might see patches of frost.

Farmers and gardeners are encouraged to protect tender plants against the cold. Covering plants, wrapping or moving them inside can protect them from frost damage.

The homeowner with outdoor pipes must take precautions to avoid freezing and possible bursts. Wrapping pipes, draining or allowing them to drip slowly can reduce the risk. For added protection, in-ground sprinklers should be drained. Above-ground pipes can be covered.

The high for Thursday will be in the mid-60s, despite the cold start. Friday is expected to be much warmer, with a high of around 80. According to the Weather Service, Rochester’s normal mid-May high is 70 degrees. Saturday is likely to be cloudy with a high of the mid-60s. Sunday will be sunny with a low of 70 degrees.
