Oklahoma State golf alumni have enjoyed a great run of professional golf.

Jul, 2023

The creation of LIV Golf in 2013 would not have made it possible, but Sunday was a big day for the former Oklahoma State golfers.

Bob Dickson of Ponte Vedra Beach, a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, was one of those players who played for OSU and helped to lay the foundations for the Cowboys that have won trophies in professional golf ever since the 1960s.

“I loved that… a few ‘Pokes won the same day, makes us very proud,” Dickson said. Dickson has won twice on PGA Tour as well as once on PGA Tour Champions. He also spent a long career in the PGA Tour Executive Staff.

In just a few hours, Rickie fowler took the Rocket Mortage Classic in Detroit and Talor gooch won the LIV Golf Andalucia in Valderrama, Spain. Both were successful on dramatic birdie puts at the end.

Fowler birdied No. Fowler birdied 18 in regulation, earning a playoff against Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa. He then birdied 18 again on a 12 foot putt.

Gooch became the third winner of LIV Golf when he made a birdie from 15 feet to beat Bryson deChambeau.

Oklahoma State has won eight tournaments in the two Tours this season.

Viktor Hovland has won The Memorial, and Charles Howell III has won the first LIV event in Mexico.

Dickson takes it all in proudly. He won U.S. Amateur and British Amateur championships while playing for the Cowboys under Labron Sr. from 1964-1966.

Bob Tway, Scott Verplank, and Labron Harris Jr. are descendants of players like Dickson, Danny and David Edwards, and Dave Eichelberger. Howell and Hunter Mahan then came along and handed the baton down to players like Fowler and Clark.

Dickson stated, “The golf culture has been excellent at Oklahoma State for many decades. It’s a great golf history.” “I am so proud of the Cowboys.”

Fowler Hovland, and Clark are the Oklahoma State PGA Tour champions this season. They have combined four victories, 22, top-10s, and earned more than 28 million dollars this season. Austin Eckroat, who finished runner-up at the Byron Nelson tournament in April, is also a contender to join these three.
