Opinion: It’s a no brainer to add Brooks Koepka as a Ryder Cup player in 2023

Aug, 2023

Six down, six more to go. What about Brooks Koepka?

The winner of the 2023 PGA Championship and LIV Golf star is ranked 45th on the Golfweek/Sagarin ranking, 13th on the Official World Golf Ranking, and, perhaps most importantly, 7th in U.S. Ryder Cup standings.

Koepka was just recently able to slip from the No. 7. , writes Tom D’Angelo, Palm Beach Post that Koepka’s selection to the 12-man team scheduled to travel to Rome in September is a no-brainer.

He says that Zach Johnson, the captain of the United States, has to make some tough decisions but this is not one of them.

It should not be about LIV Golf, or Saudi Arabia. It should be about the best interests of this team.

Koepka’s presence on the U.S. team is a good thing.

Koepka is unquestionably one of the 12 best American golfers on the planet. It’s so obvious that it seems silly to mention. The chemistry of the team wouldn’t be upset by adding Koepka, a Jupiter resident. His peers would not shun him or alienate him. It would not be Brooks as Phil Mickelson, and the rest the team playing Tiger Woods.

He would be welcomed. He would be welcome.

He writes that, if there was a draft of players, Scottie Schuffler would be taken first before Koepka.

Koepka will be one of only three Americans who win a major title in 2023. He finished tied for second place at the Masters and the U.S. Open, as well as tied for 64th place at the Open Championship. Koepka had only three chances to earn Ryder Cup Points.
