Padraig harrington is only 18 holes from winning his second major senior golf championship. He is trying to avoid letting a long pit stop throw him off course.
Harrington, a member of the Over-50 circuit since the last year, leads the 2023 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Frisco, Texas. He is 16 under par by a single shot over Steve Stricker. Harrington is in a good position after his rounds of 64-68 – 68 on the East Course. He’s pleased with the way his week has gone so far.
The first day, I was able to shoot 64 easily. The second day, I was able to get everything out of the game and shoot 68. “Today I left a great deal out on the course and shot 68,” said he Saturday after his third-round. “Golf is a crazy sport.”
Golf can be a crazy sport.
Harrington was called by Mother Nature during the third round. He wasn’t afraid to talk about a personal incident.
“Probably had the silliest or maybe the most silly. I have the most ridiculous excuse. … I’m glad I broke my par streak. It’s bad not to have made an bogey. It’s not good to do that. Harrington explained, “I know that sounds strange. So that’s what I’ll start with.
“Sixteen just appeared out of the blue, so I’m astonished. So, in essence, I went to the toilet. The door was closed. It took me a few minutes to realize that there was no one inside, and then another few moments to open the door.
“I had the longest poop ever as we were on the Champions Tour.”
Your group is waiting for you. You have to leave, but the door is closed. We’ve all experienced this.
“And then, I kind of rushed along the fairway to hit my shot. The second shot, which was a bit innocuous, was because I was playing just 15 feet to the left of the pin, and I honestly wasn’t. “I do that sometimes. I was just not focused, I wasn’t into it, and I hit a poor shot in the hazards.”
Harrington finished with a double-bogey at the par-4 sixteenth hole. He had five birdies the day before, and he closed the round with a birdie at the par-5 18. This kept his lead after 54 holes.
But, yeah, when you’re over 50, it can take a while to pee. That was my excuse. “That’s got be an original idea, I would presume.”
