Peter Kostis, a former golf instructor, is now a golf analyst in Paradise Valley, Ariz.
His background as a professional golf instructor allowed him to make the slow-motion swing analysis on CBS, which is officially the Konika Minolta Biz hub Swing Vision camera, a mainstay of TV coverage. His years of experience working with tour pros helped him develop a keen eye, which proved to be invaluable when making quick decisions on air.
Gary McCord, a long-time CBS colleague, said: “When you’re teaching in real time, you have to pick out something that the guy did within a nanosecond.” Then, they give it back to you, and now you are communicating with the truck drivers. It’s “Watch this. This is what he is doing. This is why he is hanging it on the right”, and you have to do it that quickly (snaps fingers). You gotta do it succinctly. You have to paint a picture in just two seconds. He was brilliant. Brilliant at reading golf swings and figuring out whether a man is going well or badly.
They were let go by CBS at the end of 2019 because their contracts weren’t renewed. Since then, they have started their own YouTube Channel called Kostis & McCord: off their rockers.
Kostis was inducted as one of the four members of the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame class of 2023 at Paradise Valley Country Club earlier this week.
Before the event, he spoke with Golfweek. Here is the Q&A.
