The PGA of America has released the preliminary field for next week’s 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club.
Most of the top 100 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will be here, including Masters champion Jon Rahm as well as defending PGA Champion Justin Thomas.
Tiger Woods is one notable absentee. He had ankle surgery after the Masters, and he may not be able to play the remainder of the PGA Tour’s season. Jeff Sluman from Greece, New York has opted to not play at age 66, despite having a lifetime exemption due to winning the 1988 PGA.
Jordan Spieth may not make it to the next week’s list. Spieth , who must win the PGA in order to become the sixth player to complete the career Grand Slam, has suffered a wrist and was forced to withdraw from this weekend’s Byron Nelson tournament.
Spieth posted on Twitter: “I am focused on healing quickly and will need to evaluate my recovery each week.” “My sincere thanks to all the medical professionals that have helped me this weekend.”
Players could drop out at any time for a variety of reasons. Alternates will be added. These are the players who have committed to playing as of Wednesday morning:
