PGA Tour University is a program that has proven to be a success. Its benefits are now being expanded in order to maintain this momentum.
The PGA Tour U announced Tuesday that five more Division I collegiate golfers, as well as the top Division II player, will be eligible for PGA Tour Americas membership starting in 2024.
Starting with the Class 2024, an additional five players – a total of 25 – will receive performance benefits based upon their finish on the PGA Tour U Ranking. The players who place 11th-25th will receive a free membership to PGA Tour Americas and will also be exempt from the Second Stage of PGA Tour Q School.
A junior or senior golfer who wins the D-II Jack Nicklaus Award will also receive the same benefits in 2024 as those who place 11th-25th on the PGA Tour U. The player can accept the performance benefits at the end of his college career. For example, a junior winning the D-II Jack Nicklaus award may be able to accept the performance benefits following his senior year.
Brendan von Doehren, executive director of PGA Tour University, said: “As PGA Tour University grows, the pipeline between collegiate golf and the PGA Tour becomes stronger.” The best collegiate golfers have proven they can compete with the best of the world. These enhancements to PGA Tour University will ensure at least five deserving players start their career as members of PGA Tour Americas every year.
Ludvig Aberg was the first player in history to receive a PGA Tour Card after finishing at the top of the PGA Tour U rankings. He won the RSM Classic last month to end the FedEx Cup fall.
More players will be able to earn cards in other ways.
