Phil Mickelson tweets that major LIV critic requested $55m for rebel tour

Dec, 2022

Phil Mickelson’s recent social-media activity could indicate that LIV Golf’s most vocal critic actually tried to join the rival league, but was denied by LIV.

It all started when Tiger Woods’ ex-swing coach Hank Haney said that he heard from a PGA Tour player that he was against LIV. He initially tried to join the breakaway tour at $55 million.

Many Twitter users immediately began to speculate (and some were even hoping) that Haney could be referring to Billy Horschel.

Phil Mickelson apparently had been watching the saga via his Twitter account. “Lefty,” however, started liking tweets accusing Horschel as the player who asked for $55 million.

It would be difficult for Horschel to look at a player like Horschel if he was the one in question. He has been as harsh as anyone when he criticizes players who have joined LIV Golf.

“I don’t believe that American men who haven’t supported the PGA Tour should ever be here.

“The Abraham Ancers and the Talor Goochs are the Jason Kokraks – if you have never played in this tournament, then you have never supported the DP World Tour. What are you doing here? Only one reason are you here: to get world ranking points.

It’s hypocritical, because some of these guys said they wanted less golf. It is quite hypocritical to go over and play outside LIV if your main goal was to spend more quality time with your family and to play less golf.
