On No. 18, the final match in Saturday’s afternoon fourballs session became a little heated. Patrick Cantlay made a birdie on 18 thanks to Rory McIlroy’s and Matt Fitzpatrick’s missed putts.
Team USA members put their hats up in the air after European fans waved their hats all afternoon in Cantlay’s direction. This was because they heard that he wasn’t wearing a cap this week, as he isn’t being paid for his presence. Joe LaCava and Wyndham’s Clark caddie both threw their hats into the air. Shane Lowry, LaCava and others later exchanged words.
